Why Should Rosary Rallies Be Done In the Public Square?

A common question that comes up, is, why is it so necessary to pray the rosary in public places?  Isn't it good to pray the rosary anywhere?

Brecksville, Ohio

Of course it is always very good to pray the rosary anytime and in any place.  However, there are times when prayers such as the rosary are offered for specific purposes.  All men of good will, I am sure, would agree that the many sins of our nation require immense public reparation, and we all desire the return of non-practicing Catholics to the fold.

I would like to offer a brief series addressing the very important reasons for praying the rosary on October the 11th in the Public Square.

Today, let's look at one of the reasons.  Most Catholics may find it shocking, but almost 3/4 of Catholics in America do not regularly practice their faith.  Mass is infrequently attended as is confession.  It is also not uncommon for children in such families to have even not been baptized.  If we want to bring them back to the fullness of the faith, we have to reach out to them where they are.  If we look in the churches for them they will not be there.  But everyone sometime or other, even often,  visits the public square.  By praying and beseeching Our Lady, I am confident that She will grant graces to these souls drawing them back to the Church!

Praying anywhere for the return of souls is laudatory, however, Our Lady also works through natural means and the sight of a group of people with a beautiful banner of Our Lady praying the rosary is sure to catch the attention of non-practicing Catholics who may be passing by. Catholic history is full of examples of sinners who were lax in their faith, who suddenly received a grace through something that someone said or did that caused them to reflect and eventually change.  The same actions of grace I am confident will begin taking place in the souls who hear about or observe the public rosaries on October 11th.

Today we have signed up 2,961 rally captains!  I am confident that a bouquet of 3,000 roses in the form of rally captains will be presented to Our Lady some time on Her birthday, September 8th.

  1. At a conference this past weekend in Salina Fr. Frank Pavone pointed to a story in the Bible and said that when innocent blood falls on the land, it implicates all the people of the land. This is why we are to pray publicly and to repent.
