ACLU suggests new business: Uterus, Inc.

by Rebecca Millette

TALLAHASSE, Florida, April 15, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Florida American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) launched a campaign this week challenging women to “take control” of their reproductive health and right to abortion by starting a mock business endeavor to “incorporate” their uteruses.

The project was launched in response to remarks by a Florida Representative who in late March suggested if his “wife’s uterus” were “incorporated” it might keep Republicans from regulating it.

“The point is that Republicans are always talking about deregulation and big government,” said Democrat Scott Randolph. “But I say their philosophy is small government for the big guy and big government for the little guy. And so, if my wife’s uterus was incorporated or my friend’s bedroom was incorporated, maybe the Republicans would be talking about deregulating.”

Florida has seen a major surge in pro-life legislation this year, with at least 18 pro-life bills having been introduced, including one to prohibit tax dollars from being used in abortions and another to require an ultrasound before an abortion.

In response the ACLU project, found at www.incorporatemyuterus.com, takes Randolph’s cue and encourages concerned women to make a business plan for their bodies, i.e. their uteruses.

“To [legislators], there are too many regulations on pharmacies and fruit stands,” says ACLU, “but not nearly enough government rules about your uterus.  Since they seem to agree that government has no business in business it’s time to make your uterus into a business.”

“Businesses get special treatment these days,” continues the organization. “If lawmakers and other politicians see your uterus and your body as a business, maybe they’ll work to get government out of the uterus regulation business as they do for every other company.”

ACLU’s campaign, launched on Tuesday, urges women to send letters to representatives telling them to let women keep medical health between them and their doctor and to “incorporate” via a mock certificate.
