Portugal Makes BIG Mistake; Drops Religious Feast Days to Solve Economic Crisis

You’d think that the Portuguese, being a Catholic nation, would keep or increase their number of religious holidays in order to ask for God’s help, instead of cutting back on religious holidays to boost the economy.  It seems like the Portuguese have gotten it backwards.  Remember what Our Lord says in the Gospel:

“Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Portuguese government eliminates 2 religious holidays

CWN - May 09, 2012

The government of Portugal has announced plans to eliminate 4 public holidays. The government chose the dates only after consultations with the Holy See. In a bid to provide some stimulation for the country’s sagging economy, the Portuguese leadership decided to remove several holidays from the national calendar, which had called for 14 full holidays, including religious feasts as well as national observances.
