Why is America’s largest Catholic University offering "volunteering opportunities" with Planned Parenthood?

By James Bascom

The abortion movement is probably elated over this.  DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois -- the largest Catholic university in America -- is currently offering "clinic volunteering opportunities" with mega abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

With an enrollment of 23,799 students, DePaul University is facilitating the recruitment process for the largest abortion network in America by advertising pro-abortion "opportunities" on its web site.  DePaul's College of Science and Health (listed under hospital and clinic volunteering opportunities - local clinics) and its Career Center both encourage students to consider "volunteering" for Planned Parenthood.

These listings stand in direct contradiction to DePaul's Catholic identity statement, which reads:

“By reason of its Catholic character, DePaul strives to bring the light of [the] Catholic faith and the treasures of knowledge into a mutually challenging and supportive relationship. It accepts as its corporate responsibility to remain faithful to the Catholic message drawn from authentic religious sources both traditional and contemporary."

How can DePaul suggest that its students volunteer for Planned Parenthood?

Responding to this unfortunate situation, TFP Student Action is launching an online petition addressed to Fr. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., president of DePaul University, politely urging him to cancel and permanently remove every promotion of Planned Parenthood listed on the university web site.

Catholic education has nothing in common with the mortal sin of procured abortion.  In fact, The Catechism of the Catholic Church is unequivocally clear:

Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:

You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.

God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes. (CCC, 2271)

Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. "A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae," "by the very commission of the offense,"78 and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. (CCC, 2272)

There is no way to sugarcoat reality:  Planned Parenthood slaughters innocent unborn babies, harvesting their livers, hearts and brains for profit, as recent undercover videos reveal.

Be the voice of the unborn.
